ABOUT ME
Hi there! My name is Sam and I am a sophomore at Boston University studying advertising and journalism within the College of Communication. I am a marketer and a storyteller who is very passionate about promoting meaningful messages through a variety of techniques.
All my life I've been a firm believer in the power of storytelling and authenticity as a means to bring people together, which I've now carried into adulthood through my career. Whether I'm working on a marketing campaign for an internship or an organization, addressing my Her Campus BU members at our club meetings, or conversing on the air with my fellow DJs for our radio show Ladies of History, I carry these beliefs with me no matter where I go or what I do.
As a curious child, I loved to read books after school as a way to discover different perspectives, adventures, and people. As I got older, I maintained that love of stories, but I wanted to translate my own stories and worldview through other means. In my earlier years, I would work on paintings, drawings, and collages with my artist of a mother. We would sit at home on Friday nights gaining inspiration from fashion documentaries and creative programming which we would transport into our scrapbooks. Some of my best memories are cutting through old magazines and creating a mess of scraps on our coffee table.
In my high school years, I began exploring photography and writing in school and sought out ways to develop my skills. I was accepted into esteemed programs such as The School of the New York Times where I would commute into the city during the Summer of 2017 and shadow professionals in the communications realm at the NYT, Buzzfeed, Atlantic Records, and more. We would then take what we learned and make a communications plan for a brand of our choice, we decided to form a mock record label and create a plan based around a band we created. I was in charge of the marketing and managerial side of things which I found to be the most rewarding. I also contributed to the album artwork and overall image of the band. This experience made me feel like I had finally found what I was meant to do in life. I was surrounded by people motivated by art and culture which I had previously struggled to find outside of my home. I found a means to promote people's work through this leadership role and marketing.
I have sought out similar experiences through internships at companies like Penguin Random House and Her Campus Media in my later high school years and college which aligned with my love for reading, writing, and marketing as well as my female empowered mindset.
I pride myself on my hard work, determination, and resilience and I am just getting started! Currently, you can find me as Editor-in-Chief and President of Her Campus BU, a top-ranked chapter of the Her Campus publication network. I am proud to say we have grown our chapter to 150+ members across 4 teams and post around 60+ articles a week since I have taken my leadership role.
In my free time, I love to explore Boston and NYC with my camera and get my hands on pretty much anything creative, whether it be baking a new recipe or working on an intricate drawing. My dogs are my best companions and typically one of my most entertaining photo subjects. I still very much enjoy reading for fun and watching documentaries revolving around cultural education. I also very much enjoy playing interior designer with my dorm room being my canvas. Typically, you can find me testing out which coffee shops in Boston have the best wifi and drink selection.

Hello,
I'm Sam Lurie!
